TECoSA Edge Computing Summit

June 17, 09:0015:00

All are welcome to join us for this TECoSA Edge Computing Summit, addressing key trends, use-cases and challenges in edge computing. The event is a collaboration between the KTH research centres TECoSA and Digital Futures and the university cooperation initiative Nordforsk NUEI. Join physically at KTH or online.

The TECoSA Edge Computing summit will address the academic and industrial status quo of edge computing, and in particular focus on the next ten years: Where will edge computing, networked infrastructures and applications go from here? What will 6G mean for edge computing? What will be the relevance of AI and in particular foundation models for edge computing? And how can we ensure trustworthy infrastructures in the future?

The event features keynotes by Professors Mahadev Satyanarayanam, CMU, Klara Nahrstedt, University of Urbana-Champaign, and Sasu Tarkoma, University of Helsinki, industrial perspectives and panel debates.

Stay tuned for more information, programme and time schedule!

Edge Computing: the Journey Ahead – the roots of edge computing and its intimate relationship to cloud computing

Bio: Satya’s multi-decade research career has focused on the challenges of performance, scalability, availability and trust in information systems that reach from the cloud to the mobile edge of the Internet. In the course of this work, he has pioneered many advances in distributed systems, mobile computing, pervasive computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). Acknowledged as “The Father of Edge Computing,” his seminal 2009 paper and foundational contributions have shaped the field. With a PhD from Carnegie Mellon and degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, he is honored as a Fellow of both ACM and IEEE.

AI Interconnect for 6G

Bio: Sasu Tarkoma is Dean of Faculty of Science at the University of Helsinki and Professor of Computer Science. He is visiting professor at the University of Oulu. He has published over 350 scientific articles. The most impactful articles pertain to Internet and distributed systems, Internet of Things, and mobile systems. He has authored or co-authored four international scientific books published by Wiley, CRC Press, and Cambridge University Press. He has 12 granted US patents and over 20 international patent applications. His research has received a number of Best Paper awards and mentions, for example at ACM SenSys (Test of Time Award), IEEE PerCom, ACM CCR, and ACM OSR.

Klara Nahrstedt, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Professor Klara Nahrstedt.

Edge Computing in Age of Machine Learning and Energy Constraints

Bio: Klara Nahrstedt is the Swanlund Chair Professor in the Computer Science Department, and the Director of Coordinated Science Laboratory in the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests are in end-to-end QoS, resource management in large scale distributed multimedia systems, and IoT cyber-physical systems. She is the recipient of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Achievement Award, ACM SIGMM Technical Achievement Award, and others. Klara Nahrstedt received her Diploma in Mathematics from Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany in 1985, and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of Computer and Information Science in 1995. She is ACM, IEEE, AAAS Fellow, Member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina Society), and Member of the US National Academy of Engineering.
