TECoSA Seminar – Transformation of Software Engineering Concepts in Industrial Automation: Towards Openness and Distributed Intelligence
December 5, 2024, 15:00 – 16:00
We aim to bring you a TECoSA Seminar on the first Thursday of each month during term-time. All are welcome to attend and we look forward to some lively discussions. Members can accept the Outlook invitations, non-members can email tecosa-admin@kth.se to register.
Our December seminar is withValeriy Vyatkin (IEEE Fellow), Professor of Information and Computer Engineering. The seminar will take place at Gladan, KTH. You can register for the event here. It is also possible to attend via Zoom. ABSTRACT: In this talk, we observe the past 30 years of developments in computational concepts used in Operational Technology (OT) level of industrial automation systems which is traditionally associated with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Such trends as modularity, reconfigurability and autonomy counter the complexity of engineering and stipulate industries to look for transformation of OT engineering to more software-centric and vendor neutral approach, same time maintaining compatibility with legacy. We will review the transformation of IEC 61499 standard concept and developments in the adjacent areas of computing and to summarise newly emerging challenges.
