TECoSA has welcomed seven new postdoctoral researchers to the center. In this interview series, we will introduce the talented researchers joining our community and explore the innovative work they are pursuing. This interview features Wlson A Nelson.
Hi Wilson, what were you doing before signing up as a post doc at TECoSA/KTH?
Before joining as a postdoctoral researcher at TECoSA/KTH, I completed my PhD at the University of Agder in Norway. My doctoral research focused on developing a hybrid communication switching framework for UAV-assisted wireless networks, with the aim of achieving energy-efficient data transmissions.
What is your research focusing on?
My research focuses on applying agentic AI to communications research. Currently, I am exploring how AI agents can interact with simulators and hardware testbeds to automate and accelerate different stages of the research workflow.
What challenges does your research address/what problem does it solve?
A key challenge in communications research is that the research loop involves novel hypothesis generation, testing and validation across simulators and hardware testbeds that usually requires significant manual effort and is highly time-consuming. My research aims to address this by using agentic AI to automate these iterative research tasks, enabling faster design exploration, experimentation, and validation of novel ideas.

What makes this field particularly exciting to you?
In recent years, we have seen AI transforming and automating research workflows in areas such as AI for Science and AI for Mathematics. I find it particularly interesting to explore how a similar transformation could influence communications research, and I am excited by the possibility of contributing to this shift in a meaningful way.
What do you look forward to the most during this period as a Postdoc?
During this period, I hope to expand my knowledge and develop the skills that will help me grow as an independent researcher. I am particularly looking forward to learning from experienced colleagues and researchers at TECoSA and KTH, while also strengthening my network across both academia and industry.
Do you have a hidden talent that most people don’t know about?
I usually enjoy troubleshooting and figuring out why things do not work as expected, whether it involves software debugging, resolving hardware issues or something completely unrelated to research.
