Impact of Digitalisation, Key Strategic Technology Roadmaps and Importance of Edge Computing

ABSTRACT: The talk will highlight the importance of digitalisation and the strategic opportunities this offers for Europe for the future. This is leading to significant changes giving greater productivity through exploitation of process optimisation and advanced cobotics, greater customer benefits through new smart personalised products, intelligent monitoring and in-service feedback for new product development through exploitation of digital twins, and new service-based business models driven by the new oil “data”. This very fast pace of change will have a great impact on human workers and their role in the work place as well as for society in providing smarter information driven products for the future. Here privacy, security and exploitation of autonomous features become key concerns leading to the need for trustworthiness in future IIoT and Cyber-Physical Systems. There is also a convergence of key digital technologies for the future such as Edge computing, IIoT, AI, and 5G. The presentation will highlight important roadmaps in the domain and the EC strategic thinking that has driven the new Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes launched in 2021.

Dates in the Seminar Series include: 1 October, 5 November, 3 December, 4 February, 4 March, 1 April, 6 May, 3 June
