TECoSA internal research seminar – Leveraging Model-Based Systems Engineering for Trustworthiness Assurance of Autonomous Cyber Physical Systems

October 31, 12:0013:00

Leveraging Model-Based Systems Engineering for Trustworthiness Assurance of Autonomous Cyber Physical Systems

Modern cyber physical systems challenge traditional engineering methods: They need to operate autonomously in an open, unpredictable world, uncontrollable for engineers after deployment. In consequence, system design shifts from a pure technical engineering task increasingly towards socio-technical aspects with needs to assure the fulfillment of conflicting stakeholder needs over the entire system lifecycle.

The frequent interaction with the real world requires a continuous validation of development assumptions, and with that the need for constant updateability of system designs and implementation. All these aspects require traceability from stakeholder needs over design decisions to system architectures and, for AI-based systems in particular, data architectures and dataset design.

This talk discusses challenges, ideas, and chances how rigorous Model-Based Systems (and Enterprise) Engineering can establish traceability across the system lifecycle and hence complement trustworthiness assurance processes for modern cyber physical systems.

Marcus Nolte will present on the seminar.

Before joining KTH as a TECoSA PostDoc, Marcus was a PostDoc at the Institute of Control Engineering at TU Braunschweig, Germany, where he also received his PhD in Systems and Safety Engineering for Automated Vehicles. He holds a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Mechatronics and Control from TU Braunschweig. During his PostDoc in Germany, he has worked on ethical aspects related to safety engineering for automated vehicles. His research has focused on domain-specific tailoring of Model-Based Systems and Safety Engineering methods, and is currently expanding methodologies towards continuous trustworthiness assurance for AI-based systems.

Location of the seminar: KTH Campus, Teknikringen 33, room 3312, eecs_tr33_nse_seminar
