SUMMARY:TECoSA Seminar - Security and Privacy in Machine Learning: Threat Models and Mitigation Measures
DESCRIPTION:We aim to bring you a TECoSA Seminar on the first Thursday of each month during term-time. For Autumn 2022\, the talks will be on-line or hybrid. All are welcome to attend and we look forward to some lively discussions. Members can accept the invitations\, non-members can email tecosa-admin@kth.se to register.\nOur September seminar is with Dr Raksha Ramakrishna\, Postdoctoral Researcher at the Division of Network and System Technology at KTH .  The session will be given in via Zoom (https://kth-se.zoom.us/j/66857695267). \nABSTRACT: Machine Learning (ML) is becoming ubiquitous by the day\, leading to an increase in the privacy attacks that are possible thereby risking the security of both the data used for training the ML models and the learned models themselves which could be considered intellectual property.  In this seminar\, we will discuss the taxonomy of threat models for ML models and highlight examples of privacy attacks and possible mitigation measures for them. In particular\, property inference attacks in the context of centralized and federated ML models will also be discussed based on our recent work.  \nBIO: I received my Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University (ASU) in 2020 where I worked in the SINE lab directed byProf. Anna Scaglione . I obtained an MS degree from ASU in 2017 and BE degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya College of Engineering\, Bangalore\, India in 2014.   I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Division of Network and System Technology with Prof. György Dán’s group\, and also affiliated to the Center for Trustworthy Edge Computing Systems and Applications (TECoSA) . \nMy research interests are in the domains of statistical signal processing\, smart grids and more recently in security and privacy in federated machine learning systems.

SUMMARY:SAFECOMP 2022 - "New Frontiers of Safety Assurance"
DESCRIPTION:The 41st International Conference on Computer Safety\, Reliability and Security takes place 6-9 September 2022\, via Zoom.\nThe SAFECOMP Conference Series offers a platform for knowledge and technology transfer between academia\, industry\, research institutions and standardization bodies in the areas of safety\, reliability and security regarding critical computer applications. It provides ample opportunity to exchange insights and experience on emerging methods and practical applications across the borders of different disciplines. \nImportant Dates:\nWorkshop proposal submission: 7 February 2022\nAbstract submission: 7 February 2022\nFull paper submission: 14 February 2022\nNotification of acceptance: 29 April 2022\nCamera-ready submission: 27 May 2022 \nTopics and Application Domains:\nThe conference covers the development\, assessment\, operation and maintenance of safety-related and safety-critical computer systems.  Major topics include\, but are not limited to: \n– Development\, verification\, assessment and licensing\n– Model-based safety analysis\, design and assessment\n– Formal methods for verification\, validation and fault tolerance\n– Fault detection and recovery mechanisms\n– Resilient and fault-tolerant HW- and SW-architectures\n– Distributed and real-time monitoring and control\n– Safety/security co-engineering and risk assessment\n– Testing\, verification and validation methods and tools\n– Qualification\, assurance and certification methods and tools\n– Cyber-physical threats and vulnerability analysis\n– Safety and security guidelines\, standards and certification\n– Safety and security assurance cases \nDomains of application include (but are not limited to): \n– Railways\, automotive\, space\, avionics and process industries\n– Highly automated and autonomous systems\n– Telecommunication and networks\n– Safety-related applications of smart systems and IoT\n– Critical infrastructures\, smart grids\, SCADA\n– Medical devices and healthcare\n– Surveillance\, defense\, emergency and rescue\n– Logistics\, industrial automation\, off-shore technology\n– Education and training \nSAFECOMP 2022 Key Theme:\nBy its key theme “New Frontiers of Safety Assurance” SAFECOMP 2022 will address in particular also the following topics: \n– Open systems-of-systems\n– Cloud-based control of safety-critical systems\n– Over-the-air-updates and app-like platforms\n– Machine learning\n– New principles\, paradigms and methodologies including new approaches such as dynamic safety management or data-driven assurance \nSAFECOMP 2022 Workshops:\nIt is planned to have workshops on the day preceding the conference. Workshop proposals should be sent by email to the SAFECOMP 2022 Workshop Chairs (erwin.schoitsch@ait.ac.at and jeremie.guiochet@laas.fr) including scope and contents\, programme committee and length (half or full day). It is planned to include accepted contributions in the SAFECOMP Workshop Proceedings as far as the publisher’s requirements are fulfilled. \nSubmission Details:\nThe following two types of submissions are explicitly invited: \n\nResearch articles contributing to the advancement of the current scientific knowledge (about 14 pages);\nPractical experience reports or tool descriptions providing new insight and support to practitioners (up to 14 pages).\n\nAll papers will be reviewed by at least three members of the Program Committee. Papers must not have been previously published or concurrently submitted elsewhere. Accepted articles will be published by Springer in the LNCS Series. \nThanks to all colleagues supporting the organization of SAFECOMP 2022\, in particular the Publication\, Workshop and Industry Chairs as well as all members of the Local Organization Committee and of the International Programme Committee\, as indicated on the conference website (https://safecomp2022.org). \nThe SAFECOMP 2022 Conference Chairs:\nMario Trapp (Fraunhofer IKS\, Munich\, Germany)\nFrancesca Saglietti (University of Erlangen-Nuremberg\, Erlangen\, Germany)
