TECoSA has welcomed seven new postdoctoral researchers to the center. In this interview series, we will introduce the talented researchers joining our community and explore the innovative work they are pursuing. First one out is Manzoor Hussain.
Hi Manzoor, what were you doing before signing up as a postdoc at TECoSA/KTH?
After completing my PhD in August 2025 I continued as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the same laboratory at Chungbuk National University until November. My focus was on AI safety and security for autonomous driving systems during that period.
What does your research focus on?
My research focuses on efficient collaborative perception for autonomous driving systems. Specifically, I develop computationally and communication-efficient methods that enable multiple autonomous vehicles to share perceptual information with neighboring vehicles. This collaborative exchange enhances situational awareness and contributes to safer and more reliable autonomous driving.
What problem does your research solve?
Real-time collaborative perception introduces significant computational and communication overhead, particularly when multiple vehicles simultaneously exchange perceptual data. This can lead to increased latency, transmission delays, and misalignment of information at the receiving end. To address these challenges, I am developing an efficient dimensionality reduction framework based on an autoencoder architecture inspired by MPD homomorphism, which significantly reduces data size while preserving the semantic integrity of the shared perception information.

What makes this field particularly exciting to you?
I’m particularly excited by the opportunity to contribute to technologies that can improve the safety and reliability of autonomous transportation systems. The field combines cutting-edge advances in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and intelligent transportation, offering both challenging research problems and significant real-world impact. The possibility of translating theoretical innovations into practical solutions for safer mobility is especially motivating.
What do you look forward to the most during this period as a postdoc?
I look forward to conducting research at a highly ranked and internationally recognized institution such as KTH. This position provides an excellent opportunity to strengthen my research profile, expand my collaborations, and progress toward my long-term goal of becoming an Assistant Professor.
What is the most unusual talent you have?
One of my strengths is the ability to simplify complex problems and develop elegant, understandable solutions. I believe that simplicity facilitates knowledge sharing, improves accessibility, and often leads to more effective research outcomes.
